Schneiter Fulfills Boyhood Dream by Winning County Amateur
Written by Jeff Falk

LICKDALE - It seems like only yesterday when little Ryan Schneiter was starring for the Cedar Crest golf team and finishing second at the PIAA Championships. Now he's all grown up and winning the Lebanon County Amateur.

Schneiter's maturity and composure were key elements in him claiming his first County Amateur title Sunday on Monroe Valley Golf Course's 7,000-yard, par-72 test. The recent graduate of Bucknell University carded a second-round, even-par 72, which, combined with his opening-day 68, gave him a four-under par total of 140 and a two stroke victory over Chris Gebhard.

Gebhard carded a 71 on Sunday to give him a total of two-under par 142, while Dan Brown finished third with a 73-72=145. Andy Gibbons and his 71-77=148 came in fourth, and Tony Deraco, who recorded a 70-79=148, was fifth.

Schneiter, who entered the final round with a two-stroke advantage, overcame some early struggles to put together a consistent performance. He relinquished his lead at the par-four second hole, but then endured only one bogey the rest of the way.

"I like playing in individual events," said Schneiter, who competed in his first County Amateur at the age of 15. "And this is a good one to see where you compare with other local players. I've been in the top ten before. And I've had a chance going into the second round, but was just never able to win it."

As the County Amateur Unfolds, the Field is Chasing Schneiter
Written by Jeff Falk

LICKDALE - There exists a distinguished group of golfers who possess the ability to win the County Amateur championship but never have. Near the top of that list is Ryan Schneiter's name.

During Saturday's opening round of the 52nd annual Lebanon County Amateur tournament, Schneiter put himself into position to win his first. The former Cedar Crest High School star fired a four-under par 68 over Monroe Valley Golf Course's 7,000-yard, par-72 layout to forge a two-stroke advantage over the rest of the 48-player field.

After stumbling a bit on the back nine, Schneiter closed out his round with an eagle to give himself some margin for error over Tony Deraco, who carded a two-under par score of 70. Another shot back are a pair of dangerous past champions, Chris Gebhard and Andy Gibbons, who each fired a one-under 71.

Dan Brown and defending champ Tim Leeper comprised a group of two at 73.

The title will be decided today, beginning at 10:50 a.m. when the leaders tee it up.

"Getting off to a good start was important," said Schneiter, who competed on the Bucknell University golf team before graduating this spring. "This year I put myself in position to win it. The last few years I felt like I was capable of winning it. I just haven't done it yet.
